Coach Harvey

Coach Harvey started coaching basketball in 1989 for St Bridget’s Catholic Church as part of the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) league, in his hometown of Rochester N.Y. after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. A job move with Eastman Kodak relocated him to Dallas Tx area where he picked back up coaching to help a friend and has not stopped since.

Coach’s mission is to help young people be the best they can be through lessons taught through sports. He is always trying to plant mustard seeds that he hopes takes root and help his athletes make the right decisions when they are at those cross roads of like.

Here we are discussing a move we have been working on with our 2nd/3rd graders and showing it in a NBA game. Also discussing dribbling with our head up and reading the defense. If we read it correctly before and during the play the defense will always be a step behind.
Here we are working on base change of direction drills with some upper/lower body work. Note the yellow and the darker brown basketballs are heavy basketballs (yellow 3lbs / darker brown 6lbs). Note we only have our older players (here 5th graders) using the 6lbs basketballs.
Here we are discussing playing unselfish basketball, our teams sometimes have an issue with that 😊. We want our player to think the game not just play and understand the ball has energy and when it’s being shared and move correctly everyone will have opportunities.
